Climate Change (CC): Afghanistan’s climate change, natural resources and environment is one of the core area of intervention at OFRD. Afghanistan’s land, water, forests, environment and mineral deposits are critical to the country’s prospects for a peaceful and prosperous future. Despite Afghanistan’s great potential, years of war and instability have made it difficult for natural resources to be properly managed. “Disputes over the management of natural resources such as land, water, timber, minerals, environment and drugs underpin and drive many of these conflicts and often serve to exacerbate existing ethnic, political and regional divisions”. By contrast, if Afghanistan were to achieve stability and begin to properly exploit its natural resources, it could become one of the richest countries in the region in as little as a decade. OFRD believe that a wide range of natural resources and environmental protection measures need to take in the country to build the capacity, economic growth and sustainable development. Within YRC, OFRD has providing training to volunteers and has close working relationship with NEPA and MoMP over last few years. While, OFRD has been elected as Afghanistan Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) member under the initiative of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Afghanistan.
