Activity Name: Afghanistan Education Program (AEP)

As per the Afghan Constitution law, every child has the right to a safe, formal, quality education and access to lifelong learning. However, due to a combination of factors, many girls are forced to leave school while others never have the opportunity to go in the first place. Afghanistan is still one of the most difficult places in the world to be a woman. For many of the country’s children, completing primary school remains a distant dream – especially in rural areas and for girls – despite recent progress in raising enrolment. As per UNICEF report, an estimated 3.7 million children are out-of-school in Afghanistan – 60% of them are girls. Since 2001, the number of children enrolled in General Education (grades 1-12) has risen by almost nine times, from 0.9 million (almost none of them girls) to 9.2 million with 39% girls. OFRD is working in education programs such as (Education in Emergency (EIE), Education Cannot Wait (ECW), Community Based Education (CBE), alternative learning/distance learning, special education, TVET, and girl’s education since 2012 in close collaboration of MoE, DeD, CSs, CDCs, donors and other stake holders. OFRD has the technical capacity to implement education project in 34 provinces of Afghanistan.
