OFRD has been working in Afghanistan since 2011, but the scale and severity of the current humanitarian crisis is like nothing we have ever seen before. Families and returnees are increasingly takin g desperate measures to survive. Severe economic crisis, consecutive droughts, and the suspension of development assistance has turned that crisis into a catastrophe. This year, almost 30 million people will need humanitarian assistance which include food and non-food items, shelter and cash assistance to survive. OFRD provides humanitarian assistance to IDPs, returnees and crises affected people through a rapid response mechanism designed to procure, warehouse and deliver food and non-food items and cash distribution.

Assistance is provided based on individual needs, in the form of household kits, agricultural tools, construction kits for emergency shelter and cash for basic need and transportation. Shelter assistance is provided through the provision of shelter materials or tents. Beneficiaries are identified through a coordination mechanism established by clusters and or government.
